Every year on April 1, news agencies around the world compete for perpetrating news hoaxes on their readers and other journalists.  The prize for best April Fools Day news story has to go to The Christian Science Monitor, for their story, "Global warming is a hoax." I particularly liked the conclusion:

"The only major scientific body not to sign the statement [admitting global warming is a fraud] was the Royal Society of Canada, whose country has been brought to a standstill by a massive infestation of polar bears."
