According to the New York Times yesterday, Michelle Obama and her family have given up high fructose corn syrup.  Given that our eco-blog posted about the health and environmental dangers of glucose, fructose and other corn by-products last month, we at RCM are wondering what the US First Lady is reading. It is possible she has other sources of information on this topic, so we will wait until we hear what she has to say about malathion spraying in Manitoba, or her opinions on the Lake Winnipeg phosphorous vs. nitrogen debate before we pass definite judgment on the question.  In the meantime, we like her taste.

Readers may be pleased to know that my own corn syrup free diet is going well.  Each month, I am trying to make small improvements in my diet, starting in January by cutting corn syrup derivatives.  In February, I eliminated bottled water, and this month, I have stopped eating non-organic mushrooms. Each small step takes a closer to a sustainable lifestyle.  What steps are you making?  Please post your comments, with suggestions for what you think would be a good step in the right direction.
