Annual Campaign Promotes Awareness and Action
Earth Day (April 22) is an annual campaign to raise awareness, enable learning and promote action on environmental issues. Activities range from large public events to smaller projects at schools, at businesses and in communities.
The first Earth Day was held in 1970. By 2008, an estimated 500-million people in 180 countries participated in Earth Day events.
In Manitoba, a number of organizations and groups hold Earth Day events. The next Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
