Too Good to Waste!
Taking place in October each year, Waste Reduction Week is a national event that promotes waste reduction and resource conservation for communities, businesses, and schools. In Manitoba, Waste Reduction Week is coordinated by Resource Conservation Manitoba.
2010, Waste Reduction Week is Oct 18-24.
Why celebrate Waste Reduction Week?
Canada has one of the worst records in the world on waste. Per capita, Manitobans generate about one tonne of waste each year, and yet two-thirds of all of our household waste can be recycled or composted!
Reducing waste and conserving resources are important commitments year-round. Waste Reduction Week highlights what we can do to make a difference. Celebrating new initiatives and drawing attention to existing waste reduction practices are excellent ways to raise awareness, reward successes, and commit to further steps.
